Teaching Style
My teaching method has always been focused on making the classes enjoyable for the students. I get a lot of positive feedback from the class teachers saying the students look forward to my lessons. I do this through varying the instrumental tuition with rhythm training exercises and games, theory and general musical awareness.Interactive Learning Website!
Over the past few years I have been working to provide an interactive online teaching tool that my students can use in between their weekly classes. It is based around a music database which contains 400 of the tunes that I teach regularly. It is possible for the student to view and play along with any of these tunes at any speed they desire. Since Irish Music is an aural tradition students are encouraged to use their ear and remember the rythms of tunes they are learning rather than using the written music. Interactive learning website.
Teaching Experience
• Over 10 years music teaching experience both privately, for schools and for Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann (CCE)• Teaching 1st to 6th class students at Scoil Ursula Primary School Blackrock for 4 years. On Whistle, Recorder and Keyboard.
• Teaching Classes on Mandolin, Guitar, Harmonica and Tin Whistle in Sunday’s Well Girls’ School as well as leading a Grúpa Cheoil with some of the most psomising students in the school.
• 7 Years Teaching for the CCE branch in Midleton where students are taught up to grade 8 standard with the LCM (London College of Music) Examinations in traditional Irish Music.
• Organised and taught in private music classes in Lismore for eight years.
• A lot of experience organising concerts, including the “Music for a Summer Evening” concert series in Lismore as well as establishing and directing the Capriccio Music Society in UCC which is dedicated to organising concerts and which won four awards in its first year including Best Small Society in UCC.
• Proficient at teaching Tin Whistle, Flute, Recorder, Fiddle, Accordion, Piano and Mandolin
